Homo sapiens [are] a tiny twig on an improbable branch
of a contingent limb
on a fortunate tree.
~ Stephen Jay Gould
The Mother Earth has all the memory in it of its experience,
and it will help you reflect your own experience.
— Shirley MacLaine
So when her parents have a Big Do to attend on New Years Eve, that means that Granny and Papa have "The Girl" stay over. We gathered her and a neighborhood buddy and, after dinner at the Golden Arches, we all headed to 37th Street in Austin to catch the funky holiday lights. First we cruised the street with the top down on the convertible... just a little bit cool this evening. Then we walked the street for close-up views and photos. She got to try out her new digital camera (a Christmas gift from Granny) on her buddy, who posed in front of each item in every yard. My favorite (photo upper left) is the bicycle tree, two-stories-tall and made of bicycle parts with a red tricycle at the top!
Just what I've wanted. This bottle tree is my birthday present from Mike. It was shipped in from thebottletreeman.com and is appropriately called "Wicked." The plan is to place it in a new oval elevated bed of veggies, herbs and flowers in the backyard, surrounded with an edging of inverted bottles. The mulch will be wine corks! As soon as Spring arrives, we must have a bottle tree blessing with music, wine, food and our neighbors and friends.
